London turns green for St Patrick's Day parade

Tens of thousands of individuals flooded the streets of London to partake in the festivities commemorating St. Patrick's Day.

With anticipation high, over 50,000 participants were projected to engage in the lively procession featuring Irish marching bands, vibrant dance troupes, and dazzling pageantry.

The parade, a collaborative effort between the mayor of London and the London Irish Centre, kicked off its journey from Hyde Park, weaving its way through the iconic streets of Piccadilly en route to Whitehall.

The celebratory march culminated in a grand finale at Trafalgar Square, where revelers were treated to a spectacle of live performances, adding to the jubilant atmosphere of the occasion.

Irish drag queen and prominent activist, Panti Bliss, had the esteemed privilege of serving as the grand marshal for this year's parade.

Expressing her profound gratitude and enthusiasm, Panti Bliss conveyed feeling "honoured and excited" by the esteemed appointment.

Seamus MacCormaic, the chief executive officer of the London Irish Centre, had previously articulated that the festival would pay homage to the vibrant creativity of the Irish community in London, as well as celebrate the artistic contributions of Irish talent from across the island of Ireland.
